The South West is the ideal pre-Games training location with more than 60 world-class sporting venues covering 32 different sports. With some venues only two hours from London, the South West offers athletes from across the globe the opportunity to train and acclimatise ahead of the London 2012 Games.
From watersports to equestrianism, our modern facilities and beautiful natural terrain, which includes 1,000km of stunning coastline, provide the perfect backdrop for athletes aiming for peak performance and to realise their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.
We also have an outstanding track record for hosting international sporting events and boast two of the UK’s best multisports training venues - University of Bath and Millfield School . Each provides high quality support facilities, leading-edge technology, premier on-site accommodation and access to a dedicated team of sports professionals.
Host a Nation Week (16 - 22 July 2012)
South West England will host athletes from more than 40 countries, including Ghana, New Zealand, Russia, Canada, China, Kenya and Malawi at Pre-Games Training Camps as they undergo their final preparations before this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. Teams will be based at a number of venues across the region, including Bath, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Plymouth and Weymouth & Portland.
Host a Nation Week (16 - 22 July 2012) will be a week for local communities across the UK to celebrate a positive link with the countries whose teams are based here for Pre-Games Training Camps.
To help generate ideas and support groups who are planning to hold events, the Government Olympic Executive has produced a ‘toolkit’ which is being distributed to host communities who wish to join in the celebrations.
