SPORT
The London 2012 Games are fundamentally about sport. We have a
great opportunity to inspire people to engage in sporting
activities and events, large or small, elite or at grass roots
levels.
The South West is home to many established athletes, as well as
future Olympic and Paralympic stars, all hoping to represent
Britain at the London 2012 Games. We are building on our
sporting offer to elite performers, both in terms of training
locations and world class events.
It is also vital that emerging talent in the South West is
nurtured to inspire the Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions of
the future in all sports.
The South West has a significant and celebrated sporting
culture, with thousands of people already taking part in a variety
of different sports. We are committed to enabling
everyone to join in, whether socially or
competitively.
As a region, this means providing more opportunities than ever
before through improvements in sports and recreational activity and
the delivery of a whole festival of sporting events over the coming
years.
We will be working with local schools to showcase the
health and social benefits of sports participation, offering a wide
range of opportunities for communities to engage with the London
2012 team.
