Dinosaurs Not Allowed
In recognition of Weymouth’s place as a West Country Olympic
Venue and as part of the South West’s “Count Me In” initiative (a
major celebration of music and dance on the last weekend of
September between 2009 and 2012), we will display traditional
Morris Dancing and other traditional dance styles as a thriving
youth activity in the environs of Weymouth.
Many young people are involved from 9 teams from across the
region. The youngest performer being 8 and the oldest 25. They come
as youth sides (teams) from regional schools, as youth members of
existing ‘adult sides’ or as independent young persons sides. At
Weymouth we intend to show that traditional dance is cool, fun
alive and kicking in the west. Dance is an accessible form of
exercise and is open to all. For the participants it will be a
chance to network, and in seeing others dance, strengthen the
traditional dance community.
This will show to Weymouth and the region a positive image for
youth and traditional dance.
