Barefoot Games
This project will reconnect the local community to their
environment through a number of interactive events and activities
run by young volunteers across Cornwall over the next 12 months
from July 2010. The events will act as a catalyst to engage
participation in, and an audience for the Olympics.
The big theme running through all the events is based on
creating challenges. The Eden Team and volunteers will create
Olympic style activities such as creating a long jump pit that
marks out the world record, or putting up a high jump and setting
the bar at the world record height. Children and adults from across
the area would be encouraged to try these challenges and measure
themselves against the best Olympians.
The young volunteers will learn how to lead the sessions and
interact with a diverse range of people from the community. People
in the community in turn will learn a number of skills, enhance
their fitness levels, learn to respect and sustain their
surroundings and benefit the wider community.
The project is an extremely exciting chance for Eden Project to
use the inspiration of London 2012 to interact with our communities
in a way in which has never been possible for us before. London
2012 has enabled us to explore how we can really make a difference
to lives and an impact on our local environment by putting to good
use the 2012 values.
