BUSINESS

The London 2012 Games offered South West businesses of all sizes the chance to capitalise on a wealth of commercial opportunities to access new markets, providing a unique global showcase for our products and services.

South West businesses were deemed to be in a good position to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Games, especially as the region would be home to the range of sailing and associated events being hosted at Weymouth & Portland.

In the event, an estimated £50million+ contracts were awarded to businesses in South West England with many other regional firms being engaged as sub-contractors.

How to get involved

CompeteFor was the free service that enabled businesses to compete for contract opportunities linked to the London 2012 Games and other public and private sector opportunities.

To apply for contract opportunities advertised on CompeteFor, firms were required to complete and publish a Business Profile. That would ensure they received email alerts about opportunities. 10,000 had registered on CompeteFor by the summer of 2012.

CompeteFor continues as a procurement tool for the public and private sectors. The British Business Club website provides additional information about tendering and procurement.
